Skin concerns

Acne facial: what works in-chair (and what makes breakouts worse)

Clearer texture without aggressive picking — how we treat congestion and active breakouts in a private room.

Close-up of treated skin after professional acne facial care

An acne facial is professional care for congestion and breakouts: cleanse, appropriate exfoliation, extractions only when safe, calm, and a plan so you do not undo the work at home. It is not a cure-all for hormonal acne, not a substitute for a dermatologist when you need medical treatment, and not permission to pick.

What an acne facial is (and is not)

Is: targeted work on blackheads, closed comedones, mild-to-moderate inflammatory spots, and texture that builds between visits.

Is not: a guarantee of clear skin by morning, a deep peel every time, or aggressive digging that leaves scars. We stop where the barrier says stop.

What actually helps in the chair

  • Thorough cleanse so we can see real skin, not product film
  • Enzyme or gentle chemical exfoliation matched to tolerance
  • Extractions only on lesions that are ready — not every mark on the face
  • Calming mask / LED when redness is part of the picture
  • Clear home instructions so results last past 48 hours

Honest boundary Cystic, scarring, or medically complex acne may need a dermatologist. We can support texture and care around a medical plan — we do not replace it.

What makes breakouts worse

  • Picking and “just this one” bathroom extractions
  • Stacking strong acids daily after a facial
  • Heavy occlusives on actively congested zones without a plan
  • Dirty pillowcases, phone screens, and hands on the face all day
  • Skipping SPF while using clarifying products (inflammation loves UV)
Clearer skin is mostly consistency — the facial is a reset, not a reset button you smash weekly.

Extractions: yes or no?

When the lesion is ready and skin is not in a full flare, skilled extractions can help. When skin is raw, infected-looking, or you have an event in 24 hours and flush easily, we may defer. Sensitive or rosacea-leaning clients: start with facial for sensitive skin principles even if acne is present.

How often should you book?

Many acne-prone clients start every 3–4 weeks while congestion is active, then stretch to monthly. See how often should you get a facial. If you also need hydration for dehydrated-oily skin, read hydrating vs deep cleanse.

Between visits

  1. One gentle cleanser — twice daily is enough for most people.
  2. Spot treatments where needed; not acid on the entire face every night.
  3. Moisturizer even if you are oily — stripped barriers rebound with more oil.
  4. SPF every morning.
  5. Hands off. If it hurts to leave it alone, message us instead of digging.
